Habitat
They live in flatlands with little vegetation, in marshes and in steppe
areas, wastelands and farmlands, as well as in lagoons with arid spaces
around them. They nest between April and June.
Distribution: Andalusia, Extremadura, Castilla La Mancha, Valencia
and Cataluña. They are a typically Mediterranean species. They feed
on insects, spiders and molluscs.
In Doñana they can be seen in the marshes and their surroundings
from the end of March to September. They are easy to be watched.
This is a threaten species in the EU and in Spain. They are included
in the Red List of the Vertebrates of Andalusia. The main threat comes
from pesticides and herbicides in the crops.
