Maximum size: 29 cm length – 70 cm wingspan.
Habitat
They live in the centre and the south of the Iberian
Peninsula, in lagoons, ponds, pools and dams, both inland and
on the coast, in areas with plenty of vegetation in order to
be able to build their nests. They also live in rivers,
marshes and wetlands with clean waters.
They breed in summer in the marshes in the River Guadalquivir,
the Delta del Ebro, and wetlands in the Levant and La Mancha.
They feed on insects and invertebrates.
They are customary throughout the year. They are the
most common tern species in the southwest of the peninsula.
They are listed as ‘Vulnerable’ in Spain and the EU, and they
are included in the Red List of the Vertebrates of Andalusia.
