Order: Accipitriformes
Family: Accipitridae
Aquila pennata
Booted Eagle / Águila calzada
Maximum size: 120 cm wingspan
Habitat
They can prey in forests areas, both in clearings or dense ones, coppices,
pinewoods, scrublands, or in the vicinity of human settlements, anywhere
between sea-level and 1,700 meter-high mountains.
They spend the summer and migrate to Africa in winter, although some
individuals stay in the peninsula throughout the year without migrating.
They feed on reptiles, rabbits and birds.
Although they are scarce in the seaside, they live throughout the year
in Iberian Peninsula, and they breed customarily. They can be seen particularly
in woodlands and forests, but they prey in marshlands, lagoons and paddy
fields.
