Habitat
They nest in sandy, muddy or salty-water coastal areas. They can be
seen in estuaries, dams or salty-water ponds in winter. They inhabit both
salty-water or fresh-water environments. They can be seen in Doñana,
Fuente de Piedra, Marismas (marshes) del Odiel river, Marismas del Guadalquivir,
Bay of Cádiz, and the salt lakes in Almería. In the Delta
del Ebro, Alicante, Murcia, Aragón (Gallocanta and Chiprana), Castilla
La Mancha, Asturias and Cantabria.
They are included in the Red List of the Vertebrates of Andalusia.
They are included in the List of Endangered Species: their conservation
status is Rare Species.
