Habitat
They can be seen in large groups in riverbanks, lagoons, irrigation
canals, groves, coppices, parks, gardens and croplands, as well as in scrublands
in mid-altitudes. They favour scrublands and low-bearing woods.
They are customary in wetlands in the south of the Iberian Peninsula
in spring, even in human settlements, towns, etc. They have a persistent
chirping in the vicinity of green areas, particularly in the mating season.
They are hounded by bird-catchers because of their singing skills in order
to be used in singing competitions.
They feed on cereals and berries.
