Habitat
They live in marshlands, wetlands, swampy areas, peatlands, and meadows
with few trees or bushes. They feed on worms, insects, crabs, molluscs,
starfish, etc.
They can prey on invertebrates hidden in mud and sandy banks in lagoons
and marshes thanks to their long, curved beaks.
They winter in Doñana showing up at the end of summer and leaving
at the end of the following spring. They favour marshes and lagoon pipes.
They are included in the National List of Endangered Species, and their
conservation status is ‘Special Interest’
They are included in the Red List of the Vertebrates of Andalusia,
and their conservation status is ‘Vulnerable to Extinction’.
