Habitat
They live in lagoons, wetlands and marshes. They are more abundant
in winter as more individuals -migrating from the north of Europe- arrive.
They feed on aquatic vegetation, molluscs and crustaceans.
They present sexual dimorphism. The adult male has a reddish head and
light-colour back, nearly the same as the flank, while the female has a
speckled greyish and brown, with dim spots.
They are sedentary and plentiful in winter.
