Habitat
They prefer fresh-water but they can also be seen in marshes and estuaries,
dams, lagoons, ponds, pools and wetlands.
They feed on aquatic vegetation, molluscs and worms.
In May, the chicks start taking their first tottering walks and swimming
ventures as broods in the lagoons and the crumps and reed bed surroundings,
so as to conceal and hide themselves from predators. They are sedentary.
